The US is planning to lift sanctions imposed on companies owned or controlled by Russian billionaire Oleg Deripaska and has once again postponed the introduction of sanctions against the Russian carmaker Gaz Group, in which Deripaska has a controlling interest. Volkswagen runs an assembly line at the Gaz plant in Nizhniy Novgorod.

The production and export operations of Gaz Group in Russia remain up in the air, after the US first imposed and then delayed sanctions against its owner Oleg Deripaska this month. Skad exported nearly 40% of its products in 2016. It also assembles Sprinter Classics for Daimler at the plant.
