The national average price per gallon of diesel gasoline increased for the second consecutive week, according to data issued today by the Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration (EIA).
With a 1.8-cent increase, the national average came in at $4.622 per gallon, following an 8.0-cent increase, to $4.604, for the week of January 23. That was preceded by a 2.5-cent decline, to $4.524, for the week of January 16.
Prior to the last two weeks, the national diesel average had fallen in nine of the previous 10 weeks, through the week of January 16, falling a cumulative 78.9 cents, from an average of $5.313, for the week of November 14 to $4.524, for the week of November 16.
Compared to the same week a year ago, this week’s diesel average is up 77.6 cents. WTI crude oil is currently trading at $77.33 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
