Lineage expands partnership with JBS Foods

April 8, 2022
The cold storage company’s new 200,000-square-foot automated facility in Colorado is expected to open next year, delivering 80 new jobs and a $102.9M economic impact.

Lineage Logistics plans to expand its network with a new automated cold-storage facility in Windsor, Colorado, that will serve JBS Foods USA.

Construction of the facility is expected to conclude in 2023.

“We are thrilled to partner with our long-term customer, JBS, along with the Town of Windsor and Upstate Colorado Economic Development on this project that builds on JBS’s long history of supporting local Colorado communities,” said Greg Lehmkuhl, president and CEO of Lineage Logistics. “Through this tremendous partnership, we will construct a new, world-class automated cold storage facility that leverages our industry-leading technology and expertise and builds a more efficient supply chain for JBS.”

The new 14.86-acre site, which is located within the 3,000-acre Great Western Industrial Park (GWIP), will provide JBS with more than 200,000 square feet of blast freezing and cold storage capacity, according to Lineage, as well as rail access to support the shipment of export products to ports located on the West Coast.

Lineage purchased the land from rail and real estate developer The Broe Group, which owns and operates the GWIP. The cold storage facility will be rail served by The Broe Group’s transportation affiliate, OmniTRAX, which owns and operates a network of 24 regional and shortline railroads across North America.

OmniTRAX will design, build, and operate a custom intermodal rail solution for the new facility that unlocks bulk shipment efficiency and enables worldwide reach, the companies said.

“OmniTRAX provides customized rail and real estate solutions that meet our customers’ needs,” said Dean Piacente, OmniTRAX's CEO. “By linking rail and real estate with Lineage Logistics automation, this new project will be a model for optimizing global supply chains.”

Lineage and JBS worked closely with Windsor and Upstate Colorado Economic Development to secure the project. Through the public-private collaboration, the facility will provide in a $102.9 million, 10-year net fiscal benefit to Windsor that will support further economic development of the region, including the creation of 80 permanent jobs, Lineage said.

“The Town of Windsor is pleased to welcome a quality company like Lineage Logistics to our community,” Windsor Mayor Paul Rennemeyer said. “We appreciate their significant investment in this facility and creating valuable jobs for our region.”
