EIA reports diesel average falls for first time in 11 weeks
According to data issued by the United States Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration (EIA), the price per gallon of diesel gasoline fell this week.
The average price per gallon of diesel gasoline fell for the first time in 11 weeks, according to data issued by the United States Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration (EIA) this week.
Falling 0.3 cents, the national diesel average now stands at $3.285 per gallon. Even with the decline, this marks the second highest weekly average since the week of December 29, 2014, when the weekly average came in at $3.213, standing only behind last week’s $3.288 average.
During the ten-week stretch of diesel increases prior to this week, the average topped the $3 per gallon mark each week, as well as this week. And during that span the average rose a cumulative 27.8 cents.
Compared to the same week a year ago, the diesel average is up 72.4 cents, which is down from last week’s annual spread of 71.7 cents.
West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil is currently trading at $64.80 on the New York Mercantile Exchange, which is lower than last week’s $66.73 average.
