XPO Logistics rolls out heavy goods last mile tracking capabilities through Google search

Company officials explained that through XPO’s technology consumers are able to track big and bulky home deliveries directly through Google on any internet-enabled device.

Greenwich, Conn.-based global freight and logistics services provider XPO Logistics said it has achieved a market first this week, becoming the first company to be able to provide last-mile tracking of heavy goods through Google search

XPO is the largest North American-based provider of last mile logistics for heavy goods, which is operated through its expansive network serving e-commerce and omnichannel retail customers.

Company officials explained that through XPO’s technology consumers are able to track big and bulky home deliveries directly through Google on any internet-enabled device.

What’s more, XPO added that the Google search phrase “XPO Package Tracking” displays a box for the shipment number, which updates the status with a single click. XPO said that last mile providers have not previously offered this type of heavy goods tracking.

“We have technology teams dedicated to enhancing consumerization across the board for our e-commerce and omnichannel retail customers, said Mario Harik, chief information officer of XPO Logistics, in a statement. “Google Search interacts with our last mile technology, XPO Connect marketplace and XPO Direct shared-space network for a seamless digital experience.”

XPO said it facilitates around 14 million last mile deliveries, assemblies and installations of heavy goods a year, completing the critical final stage of the supply chain for consumer purchases. It explained that once an item is in transit, XPO’s technology offers a choice of self-service options, including online order management, text updates and voice-activated connectivity through Google Home and Amazon Echo.

In its recent third quarter earnings announcement, XPO’s last-mile business revenue was up 12% to $271 million and the unit is on track for $1.1 billion in revenue for all of 2018. And XPO recently completed the rollout of all its 85 last-mile hubs ahead of schedule, with these hubs all within 125 miles of 90% of the U.S. population.
