The average price per gallon of diesel gasoline headed up for the third week in a row, according to data issued this week by the Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration (EIA).
With a 2.8-cent increase, the average price per gallon now stands at $3.076, following last week’s 4.2-cent gain to $3.048 and an average of $3.006 for the week ending February 18.
This week’s average represents the third straight week that the national diesel average topped the $3 per gallon average. Prior to that, the average had been below the $3 per gallon mark for five weeks, and before that stretch, the last time that the national average dipped below the $3 per gallon mark was the week of March 19, 2018, when it was at $2.972.
On an annual basis, the national average is up 8.4 cents.
West Texas Intermediate crude oil is currently trading at $57.02 per barrel, which is down slightly from $57.06 a week ago.
