RK Logistics opens up two new Silicon Valley-based facilities

Earlier this week, RK Logistics Group, a Silicon Valley provider of warehousing, e-commerce fulfillment and supply chain management services, announced it has expanded its Silicon Valley-based operations, with the opening of two new facilities in Newark, Calif.

The company is opening up a 269,000 square-foot facility located at 7653 Mowry Avenue and a new 141,000 square-foot warehouse located at 7375 Morton Avenue, which it said is part of a recently developed commercial and industrial business park and is built at the site of the previous Morton Salt works.

RK said the Mowry site will serve as the location for the services RK provides for Lam Research, a Silicon Valley-based designer and builder of semiconductor manufacturing systems. Services provided by RK Logistics for Lam Research, at this facility, include: warehousing; managing of components, parts and MRB inventories; shipping services; returns management; and just-in-time delivery of production materials to Lam manufacturing facilities.

And it added that the Morton Avenue location will serve as the primary location for the company’s e-commerce and retail fulfillment operations, which RK said manage inventories, and also pulls, packs, and ships online orders for myriad retail product businesses, which utilizes a technology platform that integrates warehouse operations with its client e-commerce ordering platforms, filling hundreds of e-commerce orders on a daily basis.

Rock Magnan, president of RK Logistics, said that the main reason for these expansions is due to the company having landed several new customers, and it needed more space to serve them, and he added that an existing customer significantly expanded its scope of work so that required a larger facility to meet those needs.

When asked what the main shipper customer benefits of the Morton Avenue location, Magnan said: It's a brand-new facility, state of the art, we are the first tenant, we were able to design and outfit it the way we wanted for the specific needs and service requirements of the eCommerce clients we support there. And it has room for expansion.”

As for the Mowry site and RK’s work with Lam Research, Magnan said It was the right size to meet a single client's needs.

“One client is taking the entire building,” he said. “Plus it is a modern Class A building, with a fenced yard and sufficient parking and office space. Everything was right and it had all the attributes that we needed to effectively serve the customer.”

RK Logistics also noted that it plans to hire upwards of 50 new associates to staff and operate these new locations and said it also has operating staffing needs at is current locations for another 50 new associates, for various positions, including: warehouse associates, forklift operators, material handlers, order pickers and stockers, operations supervisors, and customer support personnel.
