Diesel average rises for the third consecutive week, reports EIA

The average price per gallon of diesel gasoline eked out a slight increase, rising 0.1 cents to $3.043 per gallon, according to data issued this week by the Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration (EIA).

This marks the third straight weekly increase, a period which has seen the national diesel average rise a cumulative 7.1 cents during that span. And it also marks the third straight week the national diesel average topped the $3 per gallon mark. It previously cracked $3 per gallon the week of February 26 at $3.007 prior to the last two weeks.

These recent increases follow six weeks of declines, which saw the national diesel average drop a cumulative 11.4 cents from the week of February 3 to March 17.

Compared to the same week a year ago, the national diesel average is up 46.3 cents, and the average price of West Texas Intermediate crude oil is at $63.42, up from last week’s average of $63.42.
