The average price per gallon of diesel gasoline headed up for the second week in a row, according to data issued this week by the Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration (EIA).
With a 4.2-cent increase the average price per gallon came in at $3.048, which followed an average of $3.006 for the week ending February 18 and an average of $2.966 for the weeks ending February 11 and February 4.
This week’s average represents the second straight week that the national diesel average topped the $3 per gallon average. Prior to that, the average had been below the $3 per gallon mark for five weeks, and before that stretch, the last time that the national average dipped below the $3 per gallon mark was the week of March 19, 2018, when it was at $2.972.
On an annual basis, the national average is up 4.1 cents.
West Texas Intermediate crude oil is currently trading at $57.06 per barrel in the New York Mercantile Exchange, which is up compared to $55.75 a week ago.
