National diesel average heads up to kick off 2020, reports EIA

The Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration (EIA) reported yesterday that the national average price per gallon of diesel gasoline saw an increase for the week ending January 6.

With a 1.0-cent increase, the national weekly diesel average came in at $3.079 per gallon, topping the week ending December 30 at $3.069. This followed a 0.005-cent decline from the week of December 16, at $3.046, to the week of December 23, at $3.041.  

That decline was preceded by a 0.003-cent decline, from December 9 to December 16, a 2.1-cent decline the week of December 9, and a 0.004-cent increase for the week ending December 2 to $3.070 per gallon.

On an annual basis, this week’s average is up 6.6 cents, topping last week’s 2.8-cent annual spread.

West Texas Intermediate crude oil is currently trading at $62.53 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
