EIA reports weekly diesel average is up for the seventh time in last eight weeks


The national average weekly price per gallon for diesel gasoline saw its seventh increase in the last eight weeks, for the week of July 13, according to data issued this week by the Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration (EIA).

Rising 0.001-cents, the national average currently stands at $2.438 per gallon. This follows a 0.007-cent increase, to $2.437, for the week of July 6, which was preceded by a 0.005-cent increase, to $2.430, the week of June 29, and a 2.2-cent increase to $2.425, for the week of June 22 and a 0.007-cent increase, to $2.403, for the week of June 15, and a 1-cent gain, to $2.386, the week of June 8, a 0.004-cent decline to $2.386 per gallon, for the week ending June 1, and a 0.004-cent increase to $2.390 per gallon, for the week ending May 25. Prior to the week ending May 25, the national diesel average had been down for 19 consecutive weeks, dropping 69 cents over that period.

The national diesel average has been below the $3 per gallon mark since the week ending February 2, when it posted an average of $2.956.

On an annual basis, this week’s diesel average is down 61.3 cents, which tops the 61.2 –cent spread, from the week ending June 29.

West Texas Intermediate Crude is currently trading at $39.37 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
