The national average price per gallon of diesel gasoline headed up for the fourth time in five weeks, according to data issued this week by the Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration (EIA).
With a 2.2-cent increase, this week’s national average came in at $2.425 per gallon, following a $0.007-cent increase, to $2.403, for the week of June 15 and a 1-cent gain, to $2.386, the week of June 8, a 0.004-cent decline to $2.386 per gallon, for the week ending June 1, and a 0.004-cent increase to $2.390 per gallon, for the week ending May 25. Prior to the week ending May 25, the national diesel average had been down for 19 consecutive weeks, dropping 69 cents over that period.
The national diesel average has been below the $3 per gallon mark since the week ending February 2, when it posted an average of $2.956.
On an annual basis, this week’s diesel average is down 61.8 cents, which trails the 66.7-cent decline, from the week ending June 15.
West Texas Intermediate Crude is currently trading at $40.69 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
