With peak season closing in, CNBC released a heat map taking global events’ data and showing how it impacts the US supply chain.
The heat map currently shows congestion data like anchorage to berth, time in port, and vessel turnaround for the leading US ports.
Also included in the report is a heat map analyzing China’s supply chain congestion with data such as available vessels, containers, trucks, and time in port for exports.

REE INDEPENDENCE | Which rare earth mining companies are looking to build facilities in the US?
China blocking all exports of rare earth elements (REEs) to Japan in 2010, plus recovering from supply chain snags due to a pandemic, has the US and other global companies seeking solutions for REE independence.
Once a top producer of REEs, the US produced 60% of global REEs from 1960-1990 from one mine 53 miles southwest of Las Vegas.
But due to several reasons, the US started importing resources from China.
To gain independence again, US companies want to prevent sole dependence on China for resources.
As a result, companies have started building facilities across the US to produce items such as magnets and a facility that separates heavy REEs.

ELEVATED EXPORTS | US trade deficit reflects an increase in exports for the 2nd quarter.
US trade deficit reflects an increase in exports for the 2nd quarter.
To be exact, US exports rose by 1.2% to $176.6B, moving the US merchandise-trade deficit decreased to its smallest amount this year, signaling economic growth in Q2.
Additionally, many US retailers have stockpiled inventories to avoid a repeat of empty shelves during last year’s peak season, which is why there hasn’t been a change in imports.
