Approximately 60 percent of today's unfilled manufacturing jobs are due to a shortage of applicants with sufficient proficiency in science, technology, engineering, and math ( STEM ) skills. This estimate is according to responses provided by 83 percent of the manufacturing executives who participated in a survey conducted as part of an industry study by the Manufacturing Institute and Deloitte Consulting LLP.
