During my walk back from the gym a few days ago I passed by this truck in front of a local organic store here in Brooklyn, New York. My eyes widened when I read “zero emissions” and “100% electric” pasted in red on the side of the delivery truck. To my surprise and a quick Google search, Frito Lays announced in 2022 that it will deploy over 700 electric delivery vehicles in the U.S. by the end of 2023.

Over the last three decades, emissions from new trucks have been reduced by more than 98 percent. In fact, it would take 60 of today’s trucks to generate the same level of emissions from a single truck in 1988. Despite these impressive improvements, many trucking businesses continue to seek methods to achieve sustainability goals in a viable, measurable way.

Earlier this year, we had a large shipment stolen when it was picked up from our warehouse. We had a container arrive from overseas, the shipment was picked up and brought to our warehouse to be transloaded into a 53-foot trailer for delivery to our customer’s client across the country. Everything went smoothly until the truck broke down, was supposed to be getting repaired, and the driver stopped communicating and disappeared.
