PITT OHIO announces addition of 32 next-day lanes in and out of New York State

Earlier this week, Pittsburgh-based less-than-truckload (LTL), logistics and warehouse services provider PITT OHIO said it has made transit time improvements to and from New York State, with 32 next-day lanes.

Company officials said that with the addition of these lanes, the carrier can now move freight within one-day to and from PITT OHIO’s New York State-based terminals in Albany, Buffalo, Utica, and Watertown to terminals in it its Mid-Atlantic core territory. What’s more, the company added that, through this expansion, its shipper customers now have one-day transit times from nine PITT OHIO terminals to and from Albany, Buffalo, and Utica, with five Mid-Atlantic terminals now running next-day service to and from Watertown, in Northern New York.

“PITT OHIO is committed to providing our customers with best in class, next day service,” said Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, Geoff Muessig in a statement. “Expansions such as this one to New York is a result of listening to our customers’ needs and responding with service and solutions they require. When we expanded into the entire state of New York back in August with direct service, our first objective was to hire drivers and staff to help us improve service standards. We are the LTL carrier known for our quality service, reliability, and next day lanes. In addition to this improved service standard, shippers to and from New York can expect reliable LTL service and a wide range of solutions for the logistics challenges they are facing.”

As previously reported by LM, PITT OHIO announced in July 2022 that it would kick off a New York State service expansion the following month.

Through its partnership with Teal’s Express, a Watertown, New York-based LTL carrier that has provided LTL service within New York state for more than 96 years, which commenced in 2016, PITT OHIO has served New York state-based shippers. And the company made the relationship permanent, reaching an agreement in principle to acquire Teal’s Express equipment and terminal assets, effective August 13, 2022.

At that time, PITT OHIO said it planned to integrate Teal’s Express employees, equipment and facilities into its existing operations. And it added that Teal’s Express would close its operations on Saturday, August 13, 2022 and PITT OHIO will begin to provide direct LTL service to and from New York on Sunday, August 14, 2022. The company also said that Ross Express, PITT OHIO’s sister company, will continue to provide a similar LTL service between New England and New York state.

Last July, PITT OHIO’s Muessig told LM that the Pitt Ohio Transportation Group companies—PITT OHIO, Dohrn Transfer, Ross, and US Special Delivery—are now able to provide all points regional and inter-regional LTL service from Maine to Virginia and from New Jersey to Nebraska.

“Expansion to upstate NY enhances PITT OHIO’s value proposition shippers that require excellent service and coverage in the Northeast,” said Muessig. “Previously, PITT OHIO has partnered with Teals to provide two-day service between New York state and the middle Atlantic states. In the coming months, PITT OHIO will enhance this LTL service offering by adding next day lanes and enhanced protect from freeze service and liftgate delivery capability.”
