Further Shipping Delays Possible with Chinese New Year Quarantines Looming

The South China Morning Post reports that feeder operators – who transport goods from smaller ports to larger terminals – plan to suspend service in the southern part of China for at least six additional weeks during the Chinese New Year period. The purpose of the suspensions will be for strict state-mandated quarantine measures meant to stifle any further growth of Covid-19 cases in China, where the government continues to pursue a zero-Covid policy.

Stopping Distances and Fuel Economy: Where Does the Balance Lie for Fleet Operators?

Earlier this year (2021) research by Consumer Reports found that many electric and hybrid vehicles have stopping distances of between 6 and 12 feet compared to their non-electrified equivalents. This, testers concluded, could be the difference between “a near collision and a potentially fatal crash”. Consumer Reports’ findings argued that one of the major factors behind the reduced stopping distances in hybrid and electric vehicles was their use of low-rolling resistance tires.
