New York City supplants Atlanta on list of worst bottlenecks in nation

Port Tracker point to volume gains, and a record 2018, while potential tariff hikes await

Port Tracker reported that U.S.-based retail container ports handled 1.97 million TEU (Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units), in December, the most recent month for which data is available. This represents an 8.8% increase compared to November and a 13.9% annual gain. Total 2018 volume, at 21.8 million TEU, topped 2017’s 20.5 million TEU by 6.2%, setting a new record in the process.

Honda strikes deal with CATL on battery supply

Japanese carmaker Honda has signed a cooperation agreement with Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL) under which the Chinese battery-maker will supply about 56 GWh of lithium-ion electric vehicle (EV) batteries by 2027. Tesla cuts jobs but reports logistics gains

Tesla is reported to have cut the number of staff it uses to deliver its vehicles in North America by nearly two thirds as part of wider second round of layoffs announced by the carmaker in January. According to Reuters news service, a staff of 230 employed at the company’s Las Vegas delivery facility has been reduced to just 80. Overall, Tesla is cutting 3,000 jobs from a total of 45,000 after what CEO Elon Musk described as “the most challenging [year] in Tesla’s history”.
