In 2017 the downward trend of large shipping losses continued, according to a new survey, Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty's (AGCS) Safety & Shipping Review. Global express delivery and logistics services provider DHL said this week it has opened up a new Charleston, S.C.-based service center facility, which it said its almost triple of its previous facility in the area and designed to handle the company’s projected growth through 2025. DHL said this new $2.2 million, 16,200 square-foot facility, which is in a business park in close proximity to the Charleston International Airport, provides pickup and delivery services for international shipments.

The UK’s National Business Crime Solution (NBCS) is urging logistics companies to do more to halt the rapid escalation in tobacco theft from the rear of delivery vehicles. There has been a sharp increase in the number of reported incidents, with police figures stating at least 240 cases of theft, and in some cases robbery, of tobacco from logistics vehicles across the UK since April 2018, affecting some of the high street’s biggest names, resulting in significant losses.
