1. Improve efficiency and solve capacity problems.

Multiple agencies and organizations claim the FMCSA is falling behind on maintaining federal safety regulations for the trucking industry in comments filed with the US DOT. The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) believes the FMCSA has outdated and conflicting regulations and a slow regulatory guidance review process. With smaller carriers amassing a whopping $1.8 billion cost due to the ELD mandates, these organizations hope to influence and improve the system. The Port of Brownsville will not have manned US Customers and Border Protection (CBP) agents on site after the CBP did not renew their lease with the port. After 40 years of having an office for personnel and operations at the Port of Brownsville, the CBP will be relocating to the Brownsville-South Padre Island Airport.
