As modern lives get busier, it is a lot more difficult to find the time and headspace for necessary chores, like keeping your clothes clean and pressed, day in and day out.
There’s also the question of environmental impact. Did you know that washing machines use an average of 70 liters of water with every wash?
That’s where LaundryMate comes in. They are an innovative start-up that picks up and delivers washed, dried, and ironed clothes straight to customers’ doorsteps.
Having first started its operations in October 2022 in Bangalore, LaundryMate has serviced 23,000 customers across the city till date.
Achieving 98.52% On-time Delivery Rate With Locus
Abhinay Choudhari, co-founder of LaundryMate and formerly a founder of BigBasket, mentioned key logistics challenges that could limit LaundryMate’s growth, including:
- Drivers being forced to spend more time on the road due to no proper navigation system to guide them around traffic congestion and inaccurate addresses
- Difficulties in improvement in order volume while utilizing the capacity to the fullest, given the difficulty in coordinating order volumes with the availability of fleets, time slots etc…
- Missing actionable insights that are critical for business decisions
Having seen first-hand the scalable impact of the right technology solutions, the founders had a strong conviction to enable a tech-first approach across the board, even for tricky logistics operations. The decision to integrate Locus was influenced by Abhinay’s positive experiences with the platform during his tenure at Bigbasket. He believed that Locus would be an ideal solution for LaundryMate, due to similar fulfillment models.
He was right, as Locus has proven to be invaluable for LaundryMate for several reasons:
On-time delivery- With Bangalore as their customer base, LaundryMate had to handle around 15,000 orders per month. Taking Bangalore’s traffic and road conditions into account, Locus’ smart routing engine can factor in multiple real-world constraints to provide the delivery team the fastest route for each delivery. With initial SLAs around 87%, with Locus’ smart routing, capacity and analytics solutions, LaundryMate was able to improve their on-time delivery rate to 98.52%.
Uplift Driver experiences: With the entire captive fleet running on electric vans, fuel costs aren’t something that LaundryMate was concerned about. However, it’s the sheer amount of traffic and on-ground challenges their delivery team had to navigate through to make deliveries that worried them. With smart geocoding built into Locus’ Dispatch Management System, the addresses were already converted into precise latitude and longitude coordinates making deliveries on-point with zero struggle.
Increase in total order per van/slot: With Locus’ capacity and route planning clubbed with improved customers experience, LaundryMate’s number of orders per van/slot has increased by 5x, signaling the efficient utilization of resource and ultimately leading to better cost savings.
Data and Insights: Raw data isn’t something you can use to make decisions. With Locus’ advanced analytics, LaundryMate was able to get an understanding of how they’re performing with insights on 250+ operational metrics to make smart business decisions.
What was refreshing to hear from Abhinay is how he emphasized on their commitment to customer convenience and eco-friendly practices. Their current commitment is evident in their operations, which utilizes a fleet of 57 all-electric delivery vans, reuses 40% of the freshwater needed for industrial washers and dryers, and employs plastic-free packaging for deliveries.
A Clear-Set Ambition
Looking ahead, LaundryMate has ambitious plans for expansion. Abhinay shared that they aim to extend their services to over 30 cities nationwide within the next decade. By 2033, LaundryMate’s goal is to achieve an Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR) of $1 billion.
Locus is excited to partner with LaundryMate, and looks to deliver the scale and impact as they advance towards their 10-year vision.
