FMCSA’s Safe Driver Apprenticeship Pilot Program HOS Extension for Texas Wildfires Carriers FLS Transportation

The FMCSA will allow carriers to register to participate in the Safe Driver Apprenticeship Pilot Program.

Once the carrier has registered, they can become eligible to host an apprenticeship program while working with the DOL to recruit and train young drivers.

Following the completion of the apprenticeship, under-21 drivers will be able to operate commercial vehicles interstate.

Truck drivers providing direct assistance to the ongoing wildfire emergency in Texas receive exemptions from the FMCSA.

Since the emergency wildfire situation in Texas has not improved, the hours of service exemption for truckers has been extended through August 22.

The cargo movement at the Port of Vancouver could be disrupted next week as truckers protest the Rolling Truck Age Program.

Since the United Truckers Association (UTA) is not a union, the port authority stated that the job action would be considered a service withdrawal instead of a strike.

If the truckers take action on August 1, the cargo movement at the port could come to a standstill.

Both port officials and truckers have valid concerns about the RTAP. Learn what each side believes here.
