Beer. Popcorn. Sriracha. Lettuce. Onions. Salami.

This is a tiny sample of the scarce items in many global economies.

Lack of product being made is not always the primary problem.

Stretched supply chains, global conflicts, adverse weather, rebounding demand, and recovering from a pandemic are all factors causing an increase in prices, shipping costs, and empty shelves.

Are you curious about which items are scarce in your world? Find out here.

BELLY CAPACITY | Airplane belly cargo capacity improves as more flights take off.

Air cargo traveling in the belly of passenger airplanes is taking off and has risen to 28% of the global total, according to the International Air Transportation Association (IATA).

Belly capacity was hit hard by the pandemic, given that passenger travel came to a halt.

Before the pandemic, belly capacity accounted for 51% of all available global air cargo transportation space.

The aviation industry may be recovering, but there is still a hefty price to pay to get back on track… find out what it is here.

RAIL WORKER STRIKE | Failed negotiations triggered 750 CN Railway Co. workers to go on strike.

Failed negotiations triggered 750 Canadian National Railway Co. workers to go on strike.

The group of signal and communications workers are seeking an improvement in benefits and wages.

The strike could put more strain on the supply chain and impact Canadian oil and grain shipping costs.

Learn more about his developing story here.

JUST LOOK UP | FAA awards the first certification to Zipline to start long-range drone deliveries.

You won’t see a big comet in the sky… but you may see drones making deliveries.

The first Part 135 air carrier certification from the FAA was issued… and it did not go to Amazon, Google, UPS, or Walmart.

Zipline will begin deliveries covering 8000 square miles because the certification allows the drone delivery company to fly 26 miles away from its hub in Kannapolis, North Carolina.

Later this month, many of Zipline’s health care customers will start receiving deliveries via drone. Find out more here.

CHASSIS SHORTAGE | Why is there such a shortage of available chassis to move cargo?

It doesn’t seem like the chassis shortage will improve this year.

Many US chassis manufacturers have stopped taking orders for 2023 as they have a 9-12 month lead time on their assets due to an influx of orders.

US chassis manufacturers only account for a small percentage of chassis deployed in the US.

Where did 90% of the chassis in the US come from, and why is there a shortage of chassis? Find out here.
