Could there be supply chain disruptions in the wake of the recent ruling on California’s independent contractor law AB5?

With the California Supreme Court denying the appeal from the CTA, the AB5 stay will lift any day.

Once AB5 is in effect, independent owner-operators and the businesses that utilize them have a lot to consider in a relatively short time.

So what do drivers and businesses plan to do? Find out here.

GREEN TRUCKS | Federal government giving up to $1 million for zero-emission truck purchases.

The Canadian federal government leads the way in helping get zero-emission trucks on the road.

For example, the government offers substantial incentives to those purchasing new zero-emission trucks.

Both individual businesses and government fleets could receive up to $1 million in incentives per calendar year.

Incentives are available for all classes of medium- and heavy-duty zero-emission vehicles.

DRIVER STRIKE | When will truckers strike over the older tractor ban at the Port of Vancouver?

Vancouver Driver Strike FLS Transportation Driver Shortage

Six hundred thirty-nine Canada’s United Truckers Association members voted to strike at the Port of Vancouver.

Almost 360 truckers would be required to buy new tractors to replace models made before 2010 under the “Rolling Truck Age Program.”

As if the supply chains at the ports were not stressed enough, the strike could bring operations to a snail’s pace.

So when do the drivers plan to strike? Find out here.

LACKING DRIVERS | What are the 4 reasons behind a future truck driver shortage?

Driver Shortage FLS Transportation Vancouver Driver Strike

If something doesn’t change, we could look at a shortage of 160,000 drivers by 2030.

In hope that adjustments can be made, Nick Gaele, VP of Workforce and Labor Policy for the ATA, cited his concerns in June and pointed to 4 factors contributing to the shortage.

First on the list of factors impacting available drivers are truckers retiring.

The other three factors can be found here.

FOOD SUPPLY | What are the solutions to the global food supply chain crisis?

Dried out corn field. Global food supply chain crisis.

Since 2020, the word “shortage” seems to come up far too often.

And the only thing that appears to be consistent nowadays is that uncertainty remains certain.

Recently, contributing factors to the food supply chains include the Russian invasion of Ukraine, changing weather conditions, the pandemic, and worker and goods shortages.

So what are the consequences of these factors on the global food supply chain, and more importantly, what are the solutions?
