Winter weather is still hitting the US as a strong snowstorm travels across the Northwest this week.

Heavy snow, powerful winds, and whiteout conditions will impact some transportation routes.

Some routes will have 24-48 inches of snow and wind gusts exceeding 50 mph. To see which routes will be hit hardest, click here.

LA ports have started collecting fees for diesel trucks.

EMISSION FEES April 7 FLS Transportation Logistics Transportation Shipping Supply Chain 3pl logistics Carriers Shippers

A rate of $10 per loaded 20ft-equivalent unit on drayage trucks entering or leaving container terminals in the LA Harbor will be collected starting April 4 under the Clean Truck Fund (CTF).

In the San Pedro Bay ports, diesel emissions from trucks have been cut by 97% since 2005 due to the Clean Air Action Plan.

Approximately $90 million is expected to be collected in the first year to jump-start the move to a 100% zero-emission drayage truck fleet by 2035. Read more on the fees to be collected here.

How do autonomous trucks respond to a tire blowout?

Tire blowouts happen, even on autonomous vehicles (AVs).

So what happens when the blowout happens on one of the steering tires, and there isn’t a driver to bring the truck under control and move it off the road safely?

Goodyear, Bridgestone, Kodiak Robotics, TuSimple, and other companies are studying and working on improving tire safety for autonomous trucks.

One solution that Goodyear is working on is installing tons of sensors that will catch the problem before it becomes dangerous to other drivers on the road. Click here to read more on how these companies are working to solve AV safety concerns.

A US National Freight Data Portal is in the works.

A group of public and private sector stakeholders is working together to create a US National Freight Data Portal.

The hope is that the portal will provide transparency on data and logistics communication to improve the supply chain.

These stakeholders agreed that there was a strong need for enhanced standards exchange and use of digital information, which would relieve port and supply chain congestion and improve trade competitiveness. Get more details on the US National Freight Data Portal here.

New legislation in Alberta and Ontario could lower gas prices.

Diesel TAX CUTS April 7 FLS Transportation Logistics Transportation Shipping Supply Chain 3pl logistics Carriers Shippers

Fuel tax cuts could be on the way in Alberta and Ontario as officials work to alleviate diesel prices and keep trucks on the road.

Government officials introduced legislation to cut fuel taxes by 5.3 cents per liter for six months starting July 1.

The previous tax of 14.3 cents will drop to 9 cents per liter. Find out what other taxes could be cut here.
