Rockfon, a leading supplier of acoustic stone wool ceiling and wall products, has awarded a new warehousing and distribution contract to transport specialist CM Downton. The contract was awarded following competitive tender with Downton taking over the operation in the second quarter of 2017. Terms of the contract have not been disclosed.

Downton has been working with Rockfon’s parent company, Rockwool International, the world’s largest producer of stone wool products, for more than a year to deliver its range of insulation products to customers throughout the UK. The company was invited to tender for this new contract because of the success it had achieved with the earlier operation.

Downton will manage the new contract from its facility in Runcorn. The warehousing component will provide around 3000 pallet capacity for products received from Rockfon’s manufacturing plants in Europe. The storage comprises a mix of block stacking and racking for palletised loads of acoustic ceiling panels and cantilever racking for aluminium extrusions and other components up to three metres long that are also part of Rockfon’s range. Around 40 orders a week are picked and delivered in response to customer requirements. Downton is delivering these orders to Rockfon’s specialist customer base in the UK and Ireland.

During the transition, Downton managed the transfer of stock from the incumbent operator’s facility in Cannock to its own site in Runcorn.
