Hub Group announces plans to open up second Chicago-area HQ

Freight transportation and logistics services provider Hub Group recently announced it has officially broken ground on a second building on its Oak Brook, Ill.-based headquarters campus.

When this new building is up and running, Hub’s two headquarters buildings will collectively house up to 1,500 employees. And it added that when the company moved to its current headquarters in 2013, it had around 500 employees and has brought on close to another 300 since then.

“Hub Group’s customer-focused approach has led to sustained, long-term growth, especially as we continue to innovate with technology to drive a smarter supply chain,” said David P. Yeager, Chairman and CEO of Hub Group, in a statement. “We are pleased to take the next step forward in adding much-needed room for our growing number of employees.”

In an interview, Phil Yeager, Hub Group President and COO, Yeager said that Hub moved into its current headquarters building in 2013, adding that its continued growth over the past few years has caused Hub to outgrow its current footprint, just six years after moving in.

“In anticipation of future expansion and in alignment with our long term growth strategy, we purchased additional land in 2016,” he said.  “We’re investing in technology, equipment, acquisitions and our employees to better serve our customers and have the goal of growing from a $4 billion company today to a $6 billion company by 2023.   Given this growth trajectory and our plans for the future, we anticipated the need for more space.  In fact, our 29-acre campus is designed to house two additional buildings in the future.”

This new building, said Yeager, will give Hub even greater capacity to meet its customer’s needs—now and in the future.

“Hub Group has been headquartered in the Chicago area since its inception nearly 50 years ago, and its geographic location and strong transportation heritage have served it—and our customers—well,” explained Yeager.

“There is also a strong pool of talent here and we’re focused on attracting and retaining the best-of-the-best,” he said. “While our Headquarters is in Oak Brook, it is one of many markets where Hub Group has a solid presence. No matter where our customers are located, Hub Group is in a position to service their supply chain needs.”
