The national average price per gallon for diesel gasoline dropped for the ninth consecutive week, according to data issued by the Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration (EIA).
Falling 0.005 cents, the national diesel average is now at $2.971 per gallon, following recent declines of 0.007 cents, 0.011 cents, 0.021 cents, 1.0-cents, 0.07-cents, and 0.004-cents, respectively, over the previous six weeks. The national diesel average has risen twice in the last 16 weeks.
This week’s average price per gallon also marked the third time it fell below $3 per gallon after 26 consecutive weeks above the $3 per gallon mark.
On an annual basis, this week’s average is down 28.7 cents, topping last week’s 27.6-cent annual spread.
West Texas Intermediate Crude oil is currently trading at $58.28 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
