The national average price per gallon of diesel gasoline dropped for the fourth time in the last five weeks, according to data issued this week by the Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration (EIA).
With a 3.1-cent decrease, the national diesel average now stands at $3.105 per gallon, following 1.5-cent and 1.2-cent declines, respectively, over the previous two weeks.
This week also marked the 17th consecutive week that the national diesel average has topped the $3 per gallon mark.
Prior to that, the average had been below the $3 per gallon mark for five weeks, and before that stretch, the last time that the national average dipped below the $3 per gallon mark was the week of March 19, 2018, when it was at $2.972.
On an annual basis, this week’s average is down 16.1 cents, ahead of last week’s 14.9-cent annual spread.
West Texas Intermediate Crude oil is currently trading at $53.70 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
